Delma and Shadow

Hi!

Over one year ago we adopted Delma, the Dalmatian from Georgia! I wanted to wait a bit to submit this so you all knew how genuine we are; it isn't the "honeymoon" stage of our adoption!

It was fate that brought us all together that day. We had stopped by a pet store near us to get some treats for the cat we had at the time and they were having a puppy adoption clinic. I don't care too much for a small dog that one of the kids might accidentally hurt, so somehow I talked my husband into driving down to the shelter. There we saw Delma and another dog we also thought looked adorable, penned up together as they'd just come up from Georgia the day before (talk about perfect timing!). While we were standing there waiting for someone to bring us outside with them, the German Shepherd was adopted. Again, fate telling us Delma was the one for us!

We have three children, now aged 8, 4 and 1 that Delma is insanely careful and loving towards. She is concerned when the baby cries; she goes over and licks her tears away, lets her climb on her and snuggle up.

I was concerned at first when we brought her home with her being a stray - would she wander? Would she run away? Would she trust us and know we love her? I have no doubts on her security with us anymore. She lounges in the yard with us, goes for car rides and camping, snuggles up for movie time and plays with Shadow, a kitten we adopted almost a year ago from you as well!

Delma gets a ton of attention from everyone since she is a "fire dog!" Kids come over and she gets her tail wagging so hard she nearly falls over!

Both Delma and Shadow are doing tremendously well in their forever homes and we are so happy to share our lives with them. Shadow has a serious hunting capability. Nothing that moves on our property will survive, it seems. She is so proud to bring us her gifts. She spends her days being lazy with Delma, and the afternoons hanging out with the kids and playing in the yard. She is the most patient cat I have ever met, allowing the littlest kids to carry her all around, pretending she is a stuffed animal. Most mornings I find her snuggled up near the baby in the crib, keeping her safe and warm.

These two souls have really brought a lot of fun to our family and balance us out. I could not ever imagine such fabulous additions to our family. Not to mention how cool both of them look together!!! A Dalmatian/fire dog and a silvery kitty?? :)

Thank you for all that you do. My mom always brought us to MHHS to adopt when we were little and I am happily sharing this trend with my own children. There is no family member better to me than one that we've been able to rescue from your organization.

Sincerely,

Michelle
