Fancy
Dear Mohawk Hudson Humane Society,
Wow! Can you believe it has only been five months since we adopted Fancy? We can't, it seems as though she has been a part of our home forever. We came to MHHS looking for the perfect dog for a busy household with three children under the age of eight. Sounds like an easy enough task, but not all shelters are "family friendly". We had a German shepherd in mind, but knew the right dog would simply stand out to us. When we first walked into the dog room movement to the right caught our eye. WHAT? We would have never guessed a shelter would have a pot bellied pig in its kennels!! We made our rounds, giggling over the pot bellied pig. One dog did catch our eye, but we didn't feel she would do well with the children. As we started to leave, the pot bellied pig stood up and barked. HUH? Closer inspection revealed a bull terrier. There was something in her eyes that simply pulled at both of our hearts. A wonderful volunteer took Fancy up to the play room and she finished us off. The job of stealing our hearts was done right then and there, but this was not a decision to enter into lightly. Mary Ellen, another wonderful volunteer, told us all about Fancy and helped us get the paperwork started.
We left with out adopting, (we needed a couple of pieces of info) and we wanted the kids to meet Fancy. That drive home was rough, even mentioning her name had us both choked up. Silly huh? We had only seen the dog for about an hour, but we knew she was the one for us. Two days later we returned with the kids, they too quickly fell in love. We went out to the desk to get everything finished. I can never forget the look on Fancy's face when we walked out the door without her again. But boy was her tail wagging when she was brought out to us. You have never seen a happier dog. When we got outside the parking lot was packed full, she marched right over to our van... pulled us right to it as if she had always known.
Today Fancy has been microchipped and still loves to ride in the van. She enjoys every minute of playing with the kids. She loves her Kong balls and squeaky toys. She has been moved to a Bull Terrier friendly diet. She doesn't like the two cats that reside with us but we have found a solution to that, Fancy gets the down stairs section of the house and the cats have run of the upstairs. She has truly been the addition we were seeking.
Thanks to all the MHHS Staff and Volunteers,
The Percey Family Scott, Beth, Robert, Carolynn, Brianna, Fancy, Sheba and George
Fancy loves to play out by the pool, but if the water gets splashed too much she hides under the chairs.
