Finn
Finn was picked up as a stray on the streets of Albany. He was starving and very sick. He only weighed about 15 pounds when he should have weighed over 30. He had severe skin issues and kennel cough, and his legs looked deformed as though he was kept in a crate 24 hours a day. He had huge patches of skin missing and when you would pet him his hair was so brittle it would just fall out. He was a mess! He needed lots of TLC so Mohawk Hudson Humane Society asked us to foster him. We volunteer with Save-a-Bull, which is a program through Mohawk Hudson. We agreed and the rest is history!
Finn fit right into our home from day one. He got along with our rescue dog Calla and our two rescue cats Harry and Marv. Within a week Finn was a different dog. Good nutrition, meds, oatmeal baths and love were all he needed to bounce back. His legs stretched out and got strong and his skin grew back in beautifully.
We fell in love and we knew he had to become part of the household. We had always wanted a pit bull and spent our free time with Save-a-Bull rescuing, advocating and offering training classes for the breed. Today Finn is a happy-go-lucky pittie who is so loving. He loves his ball and going for hikes, and he and Calla just love each other.
We knew we wanted to do more with Finn to show people that pit bulls can be great dogs and really let his qualities shine. So, we did a lot of training with him and he recently passed his Therapy Dog test. He will now be a therapy dog at Albany Medical Center with his sister, Calla.
We wanted to show people that rescue/shelter dogs are not broken - they are resilient! We fight stereotypes with him every day and will continue to do so for him and his fellow pitties.
