Jasmine and Tinker Bell
I adopted Jasmine and Tinker Bell in 2003, so this story is long overdue. I only planned on coming home with one female kitten, as everyone told me was my best bet as a companion for my elderly male cat, Damien. As I walked around the room, two very exhausted, sad blue eyes looked out at me. The eyes belonged to a flamepoint Siamese mix with two spunky kittens crawling all over her. Those eyes said: "These kids are driving me nuts." Since she was not a kitten, and her two kittens were boys, I kept looking. After I held a little tortie and she kissed me on my cheek, my search was over. However, those sad blue eyes haunted me. The volunteers talked me into giving the momma cat a chance, too. So I went home with two girls.
I called the tortie Tinker Bell because she would always jump on my shoulder. I called the Siamese Jasmine because her coloring reminded me of jasmine flowers.
Everyone got along well. Damien and Jasmine became best of friends, frequently curling up together. It was better than anyone could have hoped for - two adult cats becoming as close as two cats can get. These girls made Damien's golden years great. He passed away last year from kidney disease.
Jasmine is a big flirt. She also likes dogs and comes when you whistle. Tinker Bell is a little love and likes to be carried like a baby and have her belly rubbed. Tinker Bell is still perfecting her mousing skills. She is very good at catching; it's the killing she needs to work on.
I would also like to tell everyone to consider adopting the mommy cat. Kittens are cute, but mommy cats are great. They have an air of maturity. Jasmine is calm and content, and very little gets her upset.
